Communications and Marketing Consultant
Ice911 is a nonprofit Silicon Valley moonshot. Founded in 2008 by Dr. Leslie Field, we now have years of extensive field testing, the science and technology, team, and experience needed to stabilize the climate through Arctic sea ice preservation and restoration and avoid the worst impacts of climate change. Our methods and approach will buy us more time to adopt global sustainable solutions like renewable energy, electric transport, carbon sequestration and carbon use reduction.
It's time to act. We are seeking to rapidly expand our visibility and funding partnerships beyond the climate change community to reach a broader audience of environmental, governmental, international, and corporate partners. Ice911 is seeking articulate and creative communications strategist and marketing consultant with a personal or vocational connection to the issues and stakeholders addressing climate change. Candidates will bring informed environment insights, strategic thinking, political savvy, and a sense of humor to their work. This is a hands- on part time contract position of approximately 15-20 hours a week.
Candidates will bring many of the following skills or experience to the role:
Demonstrated commitment to Ice911’s mission of slowing climate change, with experience providing leadership to these issues in a staff or volunteer leadership role.
A proven track record in developing effective communications campaigns to inform public opinion, increase awareness, and propel activism as well as collaborations, partnerships, and investments.
Exceptional public and interpersonal communication skills - including speaking, writing, and consensus building.
Expertise integrating social media campaigns including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube.
Experience working in close partnership with small but dedicated team of staff, associates, advisors, volunteers, and Board members.
Self-direction and the ability to juggle and prioritize multiple deadlines and projects in an active environment.
Ability to work occasional nights and weekends to support events.
Effective use of MS Office and database management.
Flexibility to pitch in where needed.
Experience working with international initiatives and media helpful
Drive the creation and implementation of an integrated communications and brand strategy that includes national and international press, website, internal collateral materials, blogs, and social media.
Provide a credible and informed presence for Ice911 among partners and funders.
Translate and synthesize complex scientific information into effective talking points to target diverse audiences.
Coordinate with fund raising, events and technology teams to ensure a coherent and synergistic organizational communications and outreach.
Assist the leadership team and Board in their communications roles by providing support, education and leadership.
Develop compelling case statements, funding strategies, and donor communications
Manage timely media responses and talking points for staff and Board in response to national and international issues and breaking news
Effectively utilize information technology, social media, database applications, and the Internet.
Attract and manage outside vendors when appropriate.
Work occasional nights and weekends as needed to support events.
